There’s nothing like the X-Alps competition that takes place every odd year in Europe. A group of handpicked athletes get to hike and fly 1,000s of miles across the alps to finally land in the Mediterranean Sea.
For the 5th consecutive time, Chrigel The Swiss Eagle Maurer won the competition – for the 5th time with the small support of SOURCE Hydration Systems (provided by Saij.ch, our long standing Swiss SOURCE distributor). We’ve been following this outstanding athlete for years now as his achievements become more and more spectacular.
In one of the toughest (and longest) X-Alps races ever, he hiked for over 500km (around 330 miles) and covered over 1,700km flying (>1,000 miles).
We are very proud our SOURCE Convertube Hydration System has been Chrigel Maurer’s preferred piece of equipment since his first victory, way back in early X-Alps days.
As he put it to us: “With the Convertube i can pick up a bottle somewhere along the way, in any shop, or from Thomas, and just replace what i have in my pack without pouring it into bladders, cleaning, any maintenance. I throw out the empty bottle and simply plug in the new one.”
Incredible work, Chrigel!
The numbers say it all: Christian Maurer (SUI1) won the Red Bull X-Alps 2017 in 10 days 23 hours 23 minutes 18 seconds. He spent 96.8 hours hiking and covered a total distance of 535.3km on foot. He spent 45 hours in the air and covered 1,736.2km flying. The straight-line distance of the course was 1,138km, but the total distance covered by Maurer was 2,271.5km. (Source: Redbullxalps.com)
